20 ga sphero18 #7 2.75 7/8oz load?

Postby Blinds70 » Mon Jul 05, 2021 10:09 pm

I’m sure this is a topic that has been beaten to death but I’m not so tech savvy and can’t find any loads for a 20 ga 2.75 7/8 of sphero18 #7 shot. I’m new to shotshell reloading but used some tss last duck season and was so impressed I wanted to try it for myself. Bought all this 7 shot and realized I should of waited for some 9 shot or 10. Now I have a bunch of 7 shot and can’t find any load data. I’ve been using the search and can’t find anything. I really need some help getting goin in the right direction. I’d buy some load data if anyone could help or tell me which books to buy. I have pre primed rio 16mm 2.75 hulls tps wads lil gun powder and everything else to load but really can’t find any tested loads. Any help would be much appreciated!

The BPI manual has a 7/8 steel load you could duplex. I am planing on going that route

Which manual would that be. I wanted to duplex but what the google machine has told me is 7 shot isn’t good for duplexing. Also not exactly sure how to duplex a load made for steel. I’m new to shotgun reloading. Reloaded rifles but much more data to be found. My google searches have also say that BPI load data is not reliable? Maybe that’s not the case

BPI data is not 100% reliable. From what I have been told (someone correct me if I'm wrong), they interpolate between data points to determine their loads that are listed. The data they give has not always actually been pressure tested at the powder charge listed, it's just an assumption. My rule of thumb is don't use any of their data that's borderline on pressure, but if it's down around 10k I feel safe. Their data is a great reference, but not something to live by.

7 shot is just fine for duplexing. I have duplexed it with BB steel and #3 Bismuth with great pattern results. I would suggest finding a steel duplex you like and going from there. Straight TSS loads are super expensive but also super effective. Completely up to you.
