Swapping crimp styles

Postby Jraducks » Sun May 13, 2018 10:22 am

I was wondering if you can swap a roll crimp in on fold crimp data? I am set up to do roll crimps for my .410 and wanted to do some lead target loads for it. If that's a bad idea is there a place to find roll crimp lead data or just hold out till I can pick up a mec? Thanks.

I would say YES, you can use a ROLL crimp instead of a fold crimp... all the recipe data I've looked at that differ only in the crimp, all else the same, has the roll crimp 1000-1500 psi less pressure. This includes some loads I've sent into Precision reloading myself so know them to be the same.

But for sure I would never use a fold crimp where someone has supplied data for a roll crimp.

Of course my opinion is just for my own personal risk decisions, not yours, use at own risk etc. etc. ;)
