Tss/lead duplexing
Just wondering if anyone has tried duplexing tss with lead shot for a pheasant load in the 28 gauge. Still have lots of lead 4,s 5,s and 6,s to use up. Might help to extend the range for the second shot or those long flushes.

Re: Tss/lead duplexing
I've been reloading TSS for 4 years, and have never heard of duplexing it with lead. Mainly because if you can shoot lead legally, it's a better alternative to steel. What if you went with a pure TSS load for pheasants? Probably 3/4 oz of #9 would be sufficient. You'd need filler at the base of the non-tox wad.

I agree with Paul. In a 28ga I would just use a straight TSS load. I am loading some TSS 9.5 with #5 lead for pheasants on some 20ga loads. I probably don’t need TSS with the 20ga load but I have the time to do it so why not.

Re: Tss/lead duplexing
I have played around with TSS x lead duplexing 7 or 8 years ago, and came up with some that worked well.
This thread shows how the combo created a load that would be much wider of a pattern at closer ranges, but still have a fairly hot core out to significant distances. But one thing I noticed was that you had to get the ratio of lead to TSS right.

I also came up with something similar in the 410. But never messed with it in the 28 ga.

OH yeah. Sounds good. I'm going to have to create an account there I guess with all the references to posts on that forum.
Lead/tungsten duplex testing has been on my mind (but the lighter tungsten shot) It will be interesting (springtime) to see how the 12g/cc and 15g/cc and lead compares in percentages.
Thanks, Hal. Again.
God Bless you and yours this Christmas season.
