Adding buffer

Postby Mkeller72 » Wed Oct 21, 2020 12:58 pm

I have always heard adding buffer to a load raises pressures, I'ds this true? Was wondering if I am able or need to add buffer to a my duplex loads. I am gonna do some 20 gauge 2 3/4" 7/8oz loads. 1/2 oz #3 or #5 steel shot and 3/8 oz #9 tss. If you add buffer do you put a overshot card before crimping to keep buffer in shell over time? Was thinking maybe 4 grains of buffer.

The steel load I chose for the duplex load says its 1271 fps and 11930 psi with 7/8 oz steel.

How are your patterns without buffer?

Haven't got to pattern yet. Maybe this weekend. I tell you what, I could get a lot more done if work wouldn't get in the way. :D

My 14 year old son had a bad utv accident in July. A deer came out of a standing cornfield and my son tried to dodge it and hit the deer and rolled the utv. Had to be life flighted to Denver to save his left hand. After months of healing, rehab, and strength training he has made it thru it. All that kept him going and doing the therapy is he wanted to be able to duck hunt this fall. I purchased him a 870 20 gauge to use because he doesn't feel he can shoot and handle the recoil of his 12 gauge this season. So I have been reading, purchasing all the goods for the 20 gauge and for a 28 gauge to try and make his season a success. Thank you to all that respond to my questions or have helped me by message. Kit is greatly appreciated.

Can i ask just how much TSS you use with your 7/8oz steel duplex load ?

I have a very good 7/8oz steel load for the 20g but i would like to try duplex tss load with it .

Thanks

I put 1/2 oz of steel 5s and 3/8 oz of 9s tss. I had to put 3 1/8" 28 gauge felts in the wad to make load come to top of wad. I put the tss on the bottom and the steel on top with a mylar wrap. Hope this helps.
