New from eastern Washington
Hello everyone ,great forum here been reading for a while now.I’m basically hunting coyotes and just started this later part of the season using a lucky duck revolt after using strictly mouth calls. The call has been working well but I mostly hunt public land that’s seen a lot of call action so the new sounds may be helping a lot.

For hunting coyotes I really like 1-1/2 oz of TSS #3 shot, it has right at 100 pellets per shell. If I couldn't get TSS #3 shot I would rather use TSS #4 shot "124 pellets in 1-1/2 oz" instead of TSS #2 shot "81 pellets in 1-1/2 oz".
If I couldn't get TSS #3 or #4 shot for coyotes I would rather use TSS #2 shot instead of TSS #5 shot.

I don't know much about coyote hunting. What's the range of TSS#3 on coyotes? If you were using lead shot, what size would it be and what would be your range?

When I could use lead shot on coyotes I used mostly copper coated lead BB shot and some lead BBB and T shot reloads.
I liked the BB 3" 12 ga factory 1-7/8 oz loads that had right at 98 pellets per shell for the 20 to 35 pound coyotes that I hunt.
My TSS 1-1/2 oz reloads of TSS #3 shot with right at 100 pellets per shell can kill coyotes out to 70 yards away and maybe farther. I don't shoot at coyotes over 50 yards away very often.
Look below at the penetration and pellet count differences between lead BB shot and TSS #3 shot. From KPY Shotshell Ballistics.
1300 fps lead BB shot gets 3.70" of gel penetration at 46.1 yards with about 77 pellets in 1-1/2 oz.
1300 fps TSS #3 shot gets 3.70" of gel penetration at 96.8 yards with about 100 pellets in 1-1/2 oz.
