So...I've been loading the 44 Magnum for quite some time.
Speer shot cups hold around 140grn of lead shot. The weight I'm not concerned about as a 44 can be loaded up to 300+ grn
What I'm thinking about is a deer stand I have in the bottom here in GA. Early season I have Woodie's all over me and sometimes just under me if the water is up.
Just brain storming here....thinking 10's or 11's in a 140grn container running 1200fps out of an 18" carbine barrel. I'm sure pattern would end really quick...but you never know.

Kind of like rat shot loads... I would think a sabot of some sort would be needed or the rifling on that barrel would probably take a beating.
Roll with it. If you stay above 55 the wheel wont fall off.

The shot capsule should provide some protection to the bore. The other option would be to use a TPS 410 wad. They are a snug fit I my 41 mag but would probably work in the 44 also.

I know of this being tried with 11s for an air marshal application and it reportedly worked well. I forget what the pellets were encased in and what caliber handgun it was tried in. But it was able to penetrate kevlar but the holes were small enough that the fuselage wasn't completely blown apart. I haven't heard if it ever went anywhere, but that was the idea behind it.
I'd love to see someone test it in a .44. A jacket to protect the rifling would be crucial I'd think.

IMHO you would get a very rapidly expanding donut shaped pattern with the carbine. This would be caused by the centrifical forces imparted on the shot by the rifling.
