Hello Hal and All,
I loaded several boxes of TSS in different sizes from 6’s up to 8’s. I’m out on vacation but my hunting partner called today and the first words out of his mouth were, 4 limits, no cripples on greater Canada’s. I asked him what shells he used and ranges on geese. He said he used the 7/8 oz., 12 gauge load of #8 TSS and ranges varied from Decoy to a few out past 50 yards and they folded. He said it’s the real deal. He shot a cylinder choke (or more appropriately, no choke). 4 hunters limited out at with 12 geese and no cripples out to 50+ yards and they folded. My buddy Bryan Long hunts every day of the Waterfowl season that ends in Y and doesn’t believe in hype or gimmicks. He was impressed. “TSS is the real deal.”
Thanks again Hal for the instruction, help with hand load info., and locating shot.
Sincerely,
JAMES

Re: TSS #8 on Honkers
Hello Carl,
The 7/8 oz, 2 3/4 inch load of #8 were running 1,400 fps. You don't need the hyper velocity speed with TSS at 18 gram per cubic centimeter. Density = retained velocity and penetration.
Sincerely,
James

KPY shows 2.25" penetration out to 61+ yds with 8s at that speed. 7/8 oz gives approx 220 pellets in the load.

Re: TSS #8 on Honkers
James; I agree that high velocity is not needed with TSS shot. I only have one high speed TSS load and that is the 3/8oz #11TSS .410 load. That is 1500fps+. Probably do not need velocity for that load but that is the recipe that Hal provided. Still playing with Mourning Dove using this load. Surprisingly effective, but LOUD. My loads for 28ga and 10ga are all around 1200-1300fps velocity.
